Drinking INSIDE The Ship Inn

Look at the concentration on Rich’s face, tongue out to capture that perfect selfie! Here we are drinking INSIDE The Ship Inn in Noss Mayo on Friday evening. Such a momentous occasion we just had to mark it! And yes, just in case you’re were wondering, it was a white wine spritzer – I didn’t want to get carried away with my first indoor outing 😉

Noss Mayo Pub Crawl

So we are back to being allowed into pubs which is so brilliant as we have three of the best pubs in Noss Mayo & Newton Ferrers, I’m serious they are all excellent. We thought we would try and sample them all purely for research purposes but only managed The Ship Inn and The Swan this weekend, we’ll be back soon to check out The Dolphin.

Arriving at Anchor Cottage on Friday evening – thank you Mum & Dad for coming down and looking after the boys – we headed out to the Swan hoping for a drink. Unfortunately as we hadn’t booked – our bad – there was no room inside or outside at the Inn. Undeterred we headed over the Voss to The Ship and managed to grab one of the last tables inside – yay!

To be fair the Swan is a much smaller pub and they have invested in a brilliant covered outdoor area during lockdown.  So my advice is book! Their number is 01752 873115.

South West Coast Path Walk

On Saturday, after I had finished doing the last of my colour blocking on the Coaster – our master bedroom with juliette balcony – we stuck on our walking shoes and headed off on a walk. The sun was out it was really blustery, my total favourite kind of weather for walking, the sea beckoned. Heading over the hill at the back of Anchor Cottage we cut across the fields and joined the South West Coast Path. Rather than heading towards Stoke Beach we followed the path westwards towards Gara Point and, I know I say this every time I go on a new walk, but it was the best walk yet!

There were bluebells everywhere and the fluffy white clouds were making the most gorgeous patterns, the wind was wafting my hair around, you could taste the sea spray in the air… it was almost as if I had put my brain into an express wash & tumble dry and it had come out clean and light! Utterly exhilarating.

And our treat on the way back…you guessed it a swift one at The Swan! This time we were lucky and managed to grab a table outside overlooking the Yealm. A pint of shandy & a packet of Burts salt & vinegar – what’s not to love.

Dinner at The Ship

Back home for a quick soak in the bath & then glad rags on for a stomp out to The Ship for a slap up dinner. We shared a starter, a goats cheese tart and then I had the Halibut whilst Rich plumped for his favourite – fish & chips. Washed down with a glass of white Rioja & then a red. All whilst being totally dry & warm – such a relief. We’ve done our best to support our local pubs during lockdown but it was so wonderful to be back indoors. All the pubs in Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers are fantastic inside and out, they all have great views and tasty food and I’m just so very pleased that they’re open again!!!

If you want to live like a local for a weekend or even a week or fortnight you can book to stay at Anchor Cottage our beautiful waterfront property with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, parking for two cars, kayaks, direct access to the river…
